Account: Common often abundant, in a wide range of habitats, including gardens, hedgerows, roadside verges, woodland, heathland and moorland throughout the British Isles. Quite variable, with occasional very dark individuals, but so ubiquitous the species soon becomes easily recognisable. Larva feeds on various grasses, including Common Couch, Cock's-foot and Tufted Hair-grass.
