Vernacular: Brassy Y

Account: Common in open woodland, heathland, gardens and freshwater margins throughout the British Isles. Generally a fairly distinctive species, but variable, with plain forms difficult to distinguish from plain forms of A. brockeella, which see. Larva mines young shoots and catkins of Silver and Downy Birch, and Alder.
